  • Local Playwright to Debut New Play at Arts Youniverse

posted by Alan Waclawski on June 9th, 2006 in Uncategorized Share This

“Marcinkus” - a new one man play by local playwright Tom Flannery will have its world premiere at Wilkes-Barre’s Arts Youniverse, 156 South Franklin Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA on August 4, 5, 11, 12 2006 at 8 p.m.

The play is based on the life of the late Vatican bank president Archbishop Paul Marcinkus. Marcinkus, a Chicago native, rose from the streets of Chicago to parish priest, then to Papal Bodyguard and eventually became the head of the Vatican bank during his long and checkered career. A controversial figure, he was alleged to have been involved in the Immobilare bank scandal which rocked the Vatican’s walls in the late 1970s.

The production is under the direction of Theatre veteran Paul Winarski. Winarski previously staged Flannery’s “Spanish Lady: Reflections on 1918″. Local favorite Greg Korin stars as the Archbishop.

Tickets are $10.00 and can be reserved by calling Arts Youniverse at (570) 606-4668 or (570) 736-6741
