Little Theatre of Wilkes-Barre is pleased to announce audition dates for its upcoming production of the family classic “The Wizard of Oz”.

Auditions will be held on Monday and Wednesday, July 17 and 19 2006 from 7pm to 9pm at Little Theatre of Wilkes-Barre, 537 North Main Street in Wilkes-Barre. Cast and chorus ages range from pre-teen to mature adult. Those auditioning should be prepared to sing from sheet music, an accompanist will be provided, and read from the script. Auditions on July 17, 2006 are intended for students and children under 15 while the auditions on July 19, 2006 are for those over the age of 15.

The performance is the opening production of Little Theatre’s 84th Anniversary Season. The production will be Directed by Elaine Bauer with Musical Direction by Brenda Nighbert and Technical Direction by William J. Ulichney.

Throughout the years, many versions of this classic have been produced based on the original story by L. Frank Baum. Little Theatre will present a version adapted by John Kane and first performed by the Royal Shakespeare Company at the Barbican Centre in London in 1988. This version is a more technically complex production and uses as much of the aura of the film as is possible to create in a modern theatre. It is an adaption for live stage performance, even while it strives to look and sound just like the famous film, in telling the story.

Performance dates for “The Wizard of Oz” are September 8, 9, 10, 15, 16, 17 2006. Friday and Saturday performances begin at 8:00 P.M. and Sunday matinees begin at 3:00 P.M. with all tickets priced at $15.
