The Can of Yams, a one-act farce by Friendsville, PA playwright Jonathan Caws-Elwitt, was recently published by Baker’s Plays, a prominent national publisher of scripts. The play premiered in Montrose, PA in 2002 with the Endless Mountains Theatre Company, a group with whom Caws-Elwitt has frequently performed.

Caws-Elwitt, whose work ranges from humor essays to pop songs, notes that it was his involvement with EMTC that inspired him to begin writing comedies for the stage. Over the past five years, he has written some 10 plays of various lengths, including one that was recently selected for production by a company in Australia.

Now that “Yams” is available in published form, Caws-Elwitt hopes to see the one-act attract the attention of directors who look to companies like Baker’s for new material.
