Almost, Maine - A Magical Midwinter Night’s Dream in the Land of the Northern Lights
December 16, 2006 · Print This Article
Almost, Maine enjoyed a successful off-Broadway run last winter, and comes to The Northeast Theatre in the world premiere production of the final, soon-to-be-published version of the play. Almost, Maine is a magical midwinter night’s dream in the land of northern lights; it follows the romantic life of Almost a small town in Maine that hugs the Canadian border. We are introduced to eight little love stories that all happen one cold winter’s night and send an early thrill of spring through the town’s inhabitants. Whimsical, mysterious, funny, and sweet, the play has warming agents that provide a perfect antidote for a Pennsylvania winter.
Playwright John Cariani employs elements of magical realism as he explores the mysteries of the human heart in this delightful comedy. It’s a Friday night in the middle of winter, and residents of a small, mythical town in far northern Maine are falling in and out of love at an alarming rate. Knees are getting bruised; hearts are getting broken… but the bruises heal and hearts mend — almost — in what has been described as “a magical midwinter night’s dream set in the land of northern lights.” This smart, enchanting comedy will leave you spent from laughter and thoroughly warmed — from the inside out.
Almost, Maine is made possible in part by the generous support of Clear Brook, Inc., and L. Peter Frieder of Gentex. The season is sponsored by: ServiceMaster by Griffing, Denis and Britta Nayden, Patsel’s, The Jermyn Apartments, and The Pennsylvania Council on the Arts.
