The Nuremberg Community Players, will hold auditions for their upcoming spring musical “Singing In The Rain” by Betty Comden and Adolph Green. The show will be under the direction of Ann Bonacci, assisted by Kathy Rhoads and Barbara Bartusik. Musical director will be Nadine Widis and Becky Nenstiel will take on the choreography chores. Starting at 6:30 PM on February 5 and 7, auditions will be held at The Factory Theater on School and Apple streets in Nuremberg. Show dates will be May 11, 12, 13, 19 and 20. All parts are available from lead roles to chorus plus singing and non-singing parts and walk-ons.Â
The Players are also looking for persons who are interested in working behind the scenes on set design, construction and/or decoration, costumes, props, assistant directing, advertising, tickets, programs and many other jobs. If you are interested in beginning in theater but don’t want to jump right onstage, you can be a stand-in to read for cast members who may be absent on any given night of rehearsal. It’s a great way to get your feet wet and learn about acting and blocking and also to get to know the group before appearing in front of an audience.
The show concerns Hollywood at the dawn of the “talkies” in 1927. The story is about a dashing matinee idol (Don Lockwood) and his glamorous screen partner/diva (Lina Lamont) who need to make the move from silent to sound pictures. The problem is the narcissistic, temperamental star has a shrill, screechy voice with a New York accent. Don’s ex-song-and-dance partner (Cosmo) proposes to turn the doomed film into a musical and suggests that Don’s aspiring actress/dancer girlfriend (Kathy Selden) dub in her singing voice behind the scenes for lip-synching Lina. Of course the scheming begins to expose the jealous Lina and put Kathy in the limelight. If interested in any of these four leads, you must be able to demonstrate your ability to sing and tap dance at the audition. The show features several chorus numbers, a fashion show and actual rain for the title song number.
Interested actors should be prepared to sing a short song if interested in a singing part. Age range for parts is from late teens on up and anyone interested in being on stage will be in the show in some capacity. There is a small part for 2 boys around age 10 and 2 boys around age 13, but the balance of the parts are for adults. For additional information or questions call 788-8733.
