James Joyce’s “The Dead” Coming to The Old Brick Theatre

The Old Brick Theatre presents a staged reading of an original adaptation of James Joyce’s timeless short story The Dead. Local theatre veteran, Paul Winarski, will stage this classic piece of literature derived from Joyce’s Dubliners.
Adapted by local playwright, Arthur Walsh, the story unfolds on a wintry evening in turn-of-the-century Dublin. Three generations gather at the home of two spinster sisters who are hosting their annual Christmas party. Amongst the merriment and singing, a seemingly innocent song awakens one woman’s long suppressed memories of her buried passions for a man she loved years before she ever met her husband.
The Dead offers a bittersweet glimpse into the souls of two people who learn first-hand how difficult it is to truly know one another.
With minimal staging and scripts in hand, a cast of several local theatre favorites will bring to life this haunting story. Performance dates are Friday, Feb. 23rd and Saturday, Feb. 24th at 8:00 p.m. Please call the theatre for ticket prices and reservations at #347-3713. Seating is limited. The Old Brick is located at Rear 126 East Market Street, Scranton, PA 18503. Free hot and cold hors’ douvres are being offered after the show at Stirna’s Restaurant located next door.
