The Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble (BTE) has scheduled Saturday, April 28 as the date for community auditions for the summer production of Hans Upon A Time: The Emperor’s New Clothes and other stories of Hans Christian Andersen. The auditions will begin at 10am at the Alvina Krause Theatre. Roles are available for girls and boys ages 12 and older, teens, and adults. There is also a non-speaking role for which a girl of 10 or 11 will be considered. All community roles will be double-cast.
Hans Upon A Time is an original adaptation of five of Andersen’s beloved tales, and will be produced in collaboration with the Bloomsburg University Theatre Department. Rehearsals begin June 18, with performances July 13 through July 30. A complete rehearsal and performance calendar will be available for perusal at the audition.
Ensemble Member James Goode is the adaptor and director. According to Goode: “Of the five stories we are dramatizing, three are among history’s all-time favorites: The Ugly Duckling, The Little Match Girl, and The Emperor’s New Clothes. The other two are less well known but have colorful characters and really active plots: The Nightingale, and The Tinder Box. There are lots of fun parts of varying sizes for the community actors.â€
For auditions, everyone, even girls trying out for the non-speaking role, should come prepared with a short poem (no more than 30 seconds) to recite from memory. Please arrive early as it will be the day of Bloomsburg’s Renaissance Jamboree and parking will be limited. Call-backs, if needed, will be scheduled at a future date. The Andersen stories are easily available in local libraries.
