KISS Theatre Company Presents “Into the Woods Jr.” and “Big Bad” at Little Theatre of Wilkes-Barre
What do a Baker, Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, and a boy named Jack have in common? They’re all trying to keep a wicked witch happy and a giant from making them mincemeat on the stage of Little Theatre of Wilkes-Barre!
Kids Innovating Stage and Sound, or KISS as they call themselves, will be heading to Wilkes-Barre this Spring for their first show of 2007. Kiss Theatre Company will present Into the Woods Jr. and Big Bad on Friday, April 13 and Saturday, April 14 at 7pm and Sunday, April 15 at 2pm. Performances will be at Little Theatre of Wilkes-Barre, 573 North Main Street.
Lead by Artistic Director Christa Manning, KISS Theatre Company allows youngsters to learn about the world of theatre from the ground up. From set construction to costuming, students work behind the scenes before they step onto the stage for character study and performance. Manning says since their very first production KISS has been striving to provide children ages seven to seventeen with creative dramatics that not only reward them for their creativity, but also enhance their self-esteem. In addition, KISS adopts an open arms policy to the children of Northeastern Pennsylvania and dedicates itself to providing quality theatrical programming.
In Into the Woods, popular musical theatre composers Sondheim and Lapine present a cock-eyed view of everyone’s favorite fairytale characters in this hysterical take on the Brothers Grimm. When a baker and his wife learn that they are cursed with childlessness by the Witch next door, they embark on a quest for the special objects required to break the spell, swindling, deceiving and stealing from Cinderella, Little Red Ridding Hood, Rapunzel and Jack (the one who climbs the beanstalk!).
Big Bad examines most notorious criminal in the fairy-tale world, Big Bad Wolf, as he is being slapped with a class-action lawsuit by the countless quirky characters he has wronged. Now, the two greatest legal minds in the Enchanted Forest, the Evil Stepmother and the Fairy Godmother, will clash in a trial that will be remembered forever-after. Perhaps he does deserve compassion instead of condemnation? What will the verdict be? Only the jury, the audience, can decide.
