The Shawnee Playhouse is holding auditions for I Ought to be in Pictures on Tuesday May 29 from 7:30 - 10:00 pm at the Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort (not at the theater.)
Needed are one man 40-60, One woman 30-60, One teenage girl
I Ought to be in Pictures is one of Neil Simon’s more serious theatrical
pieces. Herb, a struggling screenwriter, suddenly finds his 19-year-old
daughter, Libby, on his Hollywood doorstep. Having deserted his family
years earlier, Herb isn’t keen on having his daughter around to cramp
his lifestyle, which at this point consists of drinking and telling
lies to his faithful girlfriend, Stephanie, a movie makeup artist.
Libby is confident and articulate. She wants Herb to get her into
“pictures.” How they pick up the pieces of a father daughter
relationship is a poignant, tender, and nevertheless very funny story.
There are plenty of angry outbursts and recriminations between father
and daughter before the tearful, upbeat conclusion.
Performances of I Ought to be in Pictures will be Thursday, Friday, and
Sunday nights at 8:00 pm from August 3 through August 26, 2007.
If you already auditioned for this show on Sunday April 29, you do not
need to come to this audition unless notified directly. You are still
being considered.
