    9:30 AM – 5:30 PM 165 West 46th Street, Studio B
    Lunch from 1:00 – 2:00 New York City
    Monday, July 23, 2007 Performance Space at the Jermyn,
    2:00 PM – 10:00 PM 326 Spruce Street, second floor
    Dinner from 5:30 – 6:30 Scranton, PA

    Please prepare EITHER a) one comic and one dramatic monologue, each no longer than one minute OR b) a brief song OR c) 16 bars of a song and a one-minute monologue. Both union and non union talent will be seen, according to Equity rules and procedures.

    Please bring a picture and resume, stapled together.

    2007-08 season with available roles

    PROHIBITIVE STANDARDS by Zuppa del Giorno. Director David Zarko.
    Rehearsals: September 11 - October 2. Performance: October 3 – October 21, 2007.

    This show will be developed in rehearsal by Zuppa del Giorno, a commedia-based performance group.

    Theatre states “We are happy to see actors with exceptional skills in physical comedy and improvisation as possible members of the group. There are no roles determined as yet.”

    THE O. HENRY CONSPIRACY created by Richard Grunn and Duane Noch. Directed by David Zarko.

    Rehearsals: October 23 - 30. Performance: October 31 – November 11, 2007.

    What may have happened between a homeless Irish story-teller and a young reporter out to make his mark in New York City. The year is 1913, and the men meet when both have run out of hope. Together they lift themselves up through the discovery of a mysterious, and misunderstood, connection with the great short story writer, O. Henry.

    THIS PRODUCTION HAS ALREADY BEEN CAST. Performers will be considered as possible replacements.

    Jack (and twelve other roles): an Irish story teller in his sixties, homeless in New York, tired and losing hope, he is transformed by the needs of the younger man for direction in his life. (the other characters range in age from about 30 to 80)

    Kyle Carter: a reporter from Kansas City whose life had fallen apart, he comes to New York to get a fresh start but his dreams of a quick rise are easily shattered – an innocent receiving a hard education.

    THE AMAZING GOLDIN book by Ed Simpson, music and lyrics by Elizabeth Feller . Directed by Mary Ethel Schmidt.

    Rehearsals: November 6 - November 27. Performance: November 28 - December 16, 2007.

    The world premiere of a musical about a boy on the brink of losing his childhood who meets the magician famous for sawing a woman in half. Set at Scranton’s Poli Theatre in 1921, it is a funny, sweet story about how this unlikely pair develop a friendship, one that readies the boy for manhood and the man for life.

    Danny McBride: 12. A delivery boy for a local grocery, he’s preparing to start work in a coal mine. Curious, sensitive, and good-hearted, he’s looking for a little magic in his life before being forced to grow up. (tenor)

    Tommy Gallagher: 30’s. Danny’s cousin and the stage manager of a vaudeville troupe. Harried, gruff, no-nonsense. He’s good at his job. (baritone)

    Stanley Astor: 20’s. An energetic, self-described “comic genius.” He’ just starting out in the business and is desperate to move up the bill. (baritone)

    Dotty Bean: 20’s. A chorus dancer and the bottom half of the ” a lady in half” illusion. A Gracie Allen type - funny and show-biz savvy. (mezzo)

    Helen Leighton: 30’s. A beautiful magicians assistant, she’s the top half of the act. She “ran away” to vaudeville nine years before but now the years on the road - and her growing feelings for Goldin - have caused her to question the path of her life. (mezzo)

    Horace Goldin: 40’s. The show’s headliner and the inventor of the mystifying “sawing a lady in half” illusion. A dark, compact man with a heavy Polish accent, his egotism and secrecy masks his profound insecurity and loneliness. (baritone)

    (Note: Tommy, Stanley, Dotty, Helen, and Goldin double as necessary.)

    DOUBT by John Patrick Shanley. Directed by David Zarko

    Rehearsals: January 8 – 22. Performance: January 23 – February 10

    Sister Aloysius Beauvier: 50’s-60’s. The cynical principal of the St. Nicholas School

    Father Brendon Flynn: late 30’s. A progressive priest and religion/physical education teacher at the St. Nichollas School.

    Sister James: 20’s. An earnest young nun.

    Mrs. Muller: about 38. The mother of the first black child to attend St. Nicholas.

    TIME, TIMING, TIMELESS by David Ives. Directed by Mary Ethel Schmidt.

    Rehearsals: February 12 - February 26. Performance: February 27 - March 16, 2008.

    Two Men and Two Women: who play monkeys to maniacs.

    THE ODD COUPLE (female version) by Neil Simon. Directed by Ed Chemaly

    Rehearsals: April 22 – May 6. Performance: May 7 - 25, 2008

    Olive Madison: 40-50, sloppy, up front, tell-it-like it is kind of gal with a soft heart. Divorced, high-powered New York TV producer. Any ethnicity.

    Florence Unger: 40-50, compulsively neat, well-put-together, repressed, married 14 years to the same man. Any ethnicity.

    Micky: 40-50, uniformed New York policewoman, married. Any ethnicity.
    Sylvie, Renee, Vera: 40-60, long-time friends of Olive and Florence. Real New Yorkers, honest, fun-loving. Any ethnicity.

    Jesus and Manolo Costazuela: Brothers and suitors to Olive and Florence. Polite, good-natured, engaging. Spanish accent required, preferably Castillian.
