“Make ‘Em Laugh” hits the Hazleton Stage this Weekend!
A laugh-out-loud extravaganza of musical theatre comedy comes marching into Hazleton August 24, 25, and 26 at the J.J Ferrara Performing Arts Center. The production, called Make Em’ Laugh, is presented by Cutting Edge Drama of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area. A compilation of some of the funniest and best-known comedy numbers from blockbuster Broadway musicals as well as some just-as-funny comedy scenes from lesser-known shows, Make Em’ Laugh is sure to tickle even the tiniest funny bone.
Performances are scheduled for 8 p.m. on August 24 and 25 and at 3 p.m. on Sunday, August 26 at the Hazleton Philharmonic’s Ferrara Center on West Broad Street.
Classic comedic scenes and songs from Anything Goes, Annie, Little Shop of Horrors, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, and Les Miserables are part of the program, while the actors will also present show selections from more recent Broadway and Off-Broadway hits including Avenue Q and I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change as well as some Forbidden Broadway-style creations of their own.
The entire evening will be presented cabaret-style with an ample amount of audience interaction and a variety of desserts and other refreshments being served.
Joan Moyer of Hazleton is musical director for the production, and Lee Alucci and Michael Marone are in charge of set design.
And if that isn’t enough to peak your interest, take a glance at our all-star cast including Jimmy Williams of Dunmore, a former USO performer and highly lauded diva-“Move over Ethel, here comes La Williams!â€; Kevin Holbert of Wilkes-Barre, cum laude graduate, American Eagle model and all-around humble guy; Casey Lynch of Wilkes-Barre, a local popsicle stick artisan; Cate McDonald of Scranton, who achieved local praise for her recent performances as third girl from the left and second woman from the right; and Mike Marone of Hazleton, artistic director of the Pennsylvania Theatre of Performing Arts and presidential hopeful.
