Worthington Players will hold auditions for THE MALE ANIMAL on Saturday September 8 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Shawnee Playhouse.

This is an all-volunteer production. Needed are 5 adult women and 6 adult men. Technical crew, costumer, prop assistance, and Stage manager and are also needed.

THE MALE ANIMAL is a comedy by James Thurber and Elliot Nugent. It’s the big football weekend at Midwestern University. Absent-minded professor Tommy Turner is already in trouble with the university higher-ups for including a controversial author in his lesson plan. Now students are getting radical ideas, gossip is flying, and a visiting football hero is making passes at his wife. A mad mixture of sports, politics, testosterone, and liquor makes for a riotous comedy with contemporary relevance.

THIS PRODUCTION of The Male Animal will feature a newly revised version of the script by director Robert Armin. Representatives of both the James Thurber and Elliot Nugent estates will be present to review and consider their endorsement of Mr. Armin’s script. Cast members may be required to provide media interviews in addition to scheduled performances.

Performance dates will be November 9, 10, 11, 16, 17, and 18.

Auditions will consist of readings from the script. Select sections of the script are available for review via e-mail. This is an all-volunteer production.
