I Love Lucy Spoof to be Presented by Lakeside Players in Union Dale
Take a walk down memory lane with Lucy, Ricky, Fred, and Ethel when The Lakeside Players present Trouble at the Tropicabana, an audience participation mystery by Tony Schwartz and Marylou Ambrose. The curtain rises on Saturday, Oct. 13, at 7:30 p.m., in Union Dale Hall, corner of Rt. 171 and Skyline Drive, Union Dale.
What can you expect from an audience-participation mystery show? Fun the minute you walk in the door! The action takes place in Lucy and Ricky’s living room; then switches to Ricky’s club, the Tropicabana. You’ll hear Ricky sing some Latin favorites, see the Cabana girls dance, join in a conga line, and take mambo lessons.
Besides Lucy, Ricky, Fred, and Ethel, you’ll meet movie mogul heiress Celia B. DeMilo; Mr. Big, a notorious gangster; and Ricky’s cousin Rosita, an illegal alien. Will Ricky sign a movie contract? Is Celia who she claims to be? Will Lucy and Ethel ruin Ricky’s big chance with another harebrained scheme to get into show business? What’s the escaped convict Mr. Big doing at Ricky’s club? How do the Cabana girls keep those fruit baskets on their heads? And who committed the murder? The murder? That’s right—the murder! Someone will be ruthlessly murdered at the end of the show, and it’s up to you to solve the crime! Prizes will be awarded to the first people to correctly guess both the murderer and the motive.
Tickets for the show are $15. For information and reservations, call 570-226-6207.
This is the third show The Lakeside Players have performed at Union Dale Hall. Previous shows were the two-act plays, Mixed Emotions, by Richard Baer, and The Orphans, by James Prideaux, both performed last summer. Trouble at the Tropicabana is an original show written by Mr. Schwartz and Mrs. Ambrose, Lakeside’s co-founders. The pair has written 10 other mystery shows, which have been performed in restaurants, country clubs, and church halls throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania. The shows are also for sale on the theater company’s Web site, www.lakesideplayers.net.
Coming to Union Dale on Nov. 10 and 11 is On Golden Pond, by Ernest Thompson, timeless love story of Ethel and Norman Thayer, who are returning to their summer home in Maine for the 48th year.
Founded in 1999, The Lakeside Players are a community theater company from the Lake Wallenpaupack area. Besides Union Dale Hall, their other regular venue is Community Hall in Lakeville, where they have been performing mainstage productions since 2001.
