streetsurvivorsOn Jan. 4 the Sherman Theater in downtown Stroudsburg will host a benefit concert for the son of slain Bartonsville hunter Lee Vanluvender. The event features Artimus Pyle and The Street Survivors –the ultimate Lynyrd Skynyrd experience- and begins at 8 pm.

On Dec.4 Vanluvender was found dead after being shot several times while hunting close to the state game lands near Chestnuthill and Tunkhannock townships. The concert is being held in the name of Sean Vanluvender, Lee’s two year old son. A trust has been set up in the child’s name. Tickets for the event are $18, with $15 of every ticket purchased going directly to the Vanluvender trust.

Artimus Pyle is the legendary drummer of the iconic southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd. Pyle’s powerful and distinctive double bass drumming helped define the legendary Skynyrd sound. Artimus’ live debut with the band took place in Jacksonville’s Sgt Pepper’s Club in October 1974. The years Artimus played with Skynyrd were the years that solidified the legend behind the band with classic rock songs such as “Saturday Night Special”; “Gimme Back My Bullets”; “That Smell”; “I Know A Little” and “Freebird”. The band quickly developed into one of the nation’s top touring draws with a grueling schedule of 300 shows a year. Now performing with the Street Survivors the group delivers the true Lynyrd Skynyrd experience.

The Street Survivors have played with Artimus for Spin Magazine, Howard Stern, and HBO among many other notable appearances. The group emphasizes that they are not “impersonators”, but rather a group paying tribute to a group – and the men- that touched the hearts of many.

Tickets are on sale now at shermantheater.com or by calling the boxoffice at 570.420.2808.
