DUPREES & SHIRLEY ALSTON REEVES to Headline Sherman Doo Wop Event
January 20, 2008 · Print This Article
Two legends of classic doo wop – The Duprees and Shirley Alston Reeves – will entertain crowds at the Sherman Theater at a Valentines Day themed event presented on Feb. 8 at 8 p.m.
With their unique sound and outstanding vocal harmonies, The Duprees have entertained audiences all throughout the world. Originally hailing from Jersey City, NJ, the group was inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2006. The Duprees are best known for top hits such as You Belong to Me, My Own True Love, and Why Don’t You Believe Me.
Another unmistakable voice of the Doo Wop, Shirley Alston Reeves, will perform the same evening. Reeves co-found The Shirelles and sang lead vocals for the group. Bridging doo wop and uptown New York pop-soul, the group projected a beguiling mixture of tenderness and innocence that was grounded in R&B as much as pop/rock. Reeves has recorded countless standout recordings including: Mama Said, Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow, This is Dedicated To The One I Love, and The Shirelles 5 million selling hit – Soldier Boy.
This event is sponsored in part by the Pocono Record, 98.5 WKRZ, WNEP, and ViaMedia.
