Zuppa del Giorno, The Northeast Theatre’s American commmedia troupe, announced today that they have been invited to perform at four theatre festivals in central Italy, two in June and two more in November. They will be presenting a new comic creation about young love that draws from various of their shows throughout the years, called L’amore e’ mazzo, ma buona (Love is Crazy, But Good). The piece will be performed entirely without words, much like their 2005 hit, Silent Lives.
In June, they will perform at Teatro che Cammina, a street theatre festival in Castel San Pietro outside of Bologna, and at a theatre festival in Porano, near Orvieto. In November, they will be featured at Teatro Diffuso, a festival in Acquapendente in Lazzio, and at another festival at Pederobba in the Veneto.
As part of the Theatre’s 2008-09 season, Zuppa del Giorno will create a red-nose and commedia version of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, which is also proposed to become the inaugural production at a festival of Shakespeare-inspired work to be performed in Acquapendente’s amphitheater during the summer of 2009.
Zuppa has developed strong ties with Teatro Boni of Acquapendente, with Italian actor and commediano, Andrea Brugnera of Orvieto (who presented his monodramas, The Ten Commandments and The French Revolution at Performance Space at the Hotel Jermyn this past April), and with Angelo Crotti, a world-renowned teacher and performer of commedia dell’arte. “We are building a theatrical bridge between cultures,” explains Andrea, “one that will see many crossings in the years to come.”
