The Gaslight Theatre Company announces auditions for Elizabeth Merriweather’s new absurdist comedy, The Mistakes Madeline Made.

What happens if you just stop showering? The Mistakes Madeline Made is a twisted and hilarious coming-of-age story about a girl who develops ablutophobia, a fear of bathing.

Life stinks for poor Edna, one of many assistants to a fabulously wealthy family. She has a high-strung perfectionist for a boss, a revolving door of Mr.Wrongs, and an office coworker who makes the oddest noises. Worst of all, her brother, a war correspondent, has taken over her tub making it impossible for her to take a bath. In this tale of a young woman who is smarter than her circumstances allow her to express, ablutophobia becomes metaphor for a youthful generation’s feelings of helplessness over the war in Iraq. The play raises the questions: Is dirty living a political act? And is clean living even possible when we have blood on our hands?

Roles are available for two women and three men ages 18-40. All actors will be asked to read from the script and take part in group improvisations.

Auditions will take place Monday and Wednesday evening, June 23 and 25 at 7pm. Auditions will be held at 900 Rutter Avenue in Forty-Fort (the large brick building that is home to the Sakari Salon). Performance dates are August 7,8,9,14,15,16. Gaslight Theatre Company can be reached at gaslighttheatre@gmail.com or (570) 762-1033 with any questions.
