What happens if you just stop showering? The Mistakes Madeline Made is a twisted and hilarious coming-of-age story about a girl who develops ablutophobia, a fear of bathing.
Performance Dates are August 7, 8, 9, 14, 15, and 16 at 8:30 P.M. at 900 Rutter Avenue in Forty-Fort (the large brick building that is home to the Sakari Salon). Tickets are $9, available by telephone, e-mail, or at the door. Following each Friday performance, join us for a Talk-Back session with the cast, crew, and special guests. Life stinks for poor Edna, one of many assistants to a fabulously wealthy family. She has a high-strung perfectionist for a boss, a revolving door of Mr.Wrongs, and an office coworker who makes the oddest noises. Worst of all, her brother, a war correspondent, has taken over her tub making it impossible for her to take a bath. In Meriwether’s tale of a young woman who is smarter than her circumstances allow her to express, ablutophobia becomes metaphor for a youthful generation’s feelings of helplessness over the war in Iraq, and, more simply, the mundane-ness of office life. The play raises the questions: Is dirty living a political act? And is clean living even possible when we have blood on our hands?
Deirdre McLaughlin directs this evening of outrageous humor, surprising delicacy and emotional depth. The cast includes Anne Rodella, David Koschak, Jennifer Hill-Kaucher, Timothy McDermott, Chad Hoffman, and Ilvin Nieves with production design by Mark David Boberick and technical direction by David Reynolds.
The Mistakes Madeline Made is recommended for mature audiences only.
