The Shawnee Playhouse presents AR Gurney’s Off-Broadway success THE DINING ROOM, final performances are Thursday July 31, Friday August 1, and Sunday August 3 at 8:00 pm.

DiningRoom1-fullIf walls could talk, they’d make you laugh. THE DINING ROOM is a humorous and compassionate play composed of overlapping vignettes that range from comic to serious and back again. It offers tantalizing glimpses into the human condition: the joys, sorrows, love, and surprises that make up the dynamic relationships of family life.

“THE DINING ROOM explores the universality of the human experience, revolving around a dining room table,” says director Christopher Centrella. “It is at this traditional gathering place that the odd, wonderful, and sometimes heartbreaking stories of life unfold.”

THE DINING ROOM is a favorite of theater lovers and performers, because only six actors portray over fifty roles throughout the show. The actors change roles, personalities and ages as they portray a wide variety of characters, from little boys to stern grandfathers, giggling teenage girls to wry housemaids. The play is also unique in that the characters change around the scenery, rather than the scenery changing around the characters.

DiningRoom2-fullThe Shawnee Playhouse’s 29th Season continues throughout the summer with the high-spirited FAME: THE MUSICAL, the charming children’s play PETER PAN, the rollicking musical comedy NUNSENSE, Neil Simon’s comedy STAR SPANGLED GIRL, and Tony Award winner MORNING’S AT SEVEN.
