BTE’s Not For Everybody Series brings Beckett’s Happy Days to Bloomsburg

The Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble will present Samuel Beckett’s Happy Days, March 26-30, 2008 at the Theatre Lab on the Bloomsburg University campus. Happy Days is the third installment in BTE’s new alternative “Not For Everybody” series, and will be directed by BTE Associate Ensemble Member Peter Brown.

The newest international dance sensation, The Stepcrew will light up the stage at the Sherman Theater Thursday, April 3, 2008. This Celtic dance troupe is yet another act coming out to support the Sherman Theater’s Capital Campaign during its transition to a Non-Profit Regional Performing Arts Center.
Part Bowfire, part Lord of the Dance, part Chieftans – The Stepcrew takes traditional Celtic dance and fiddling to new heights! The show features 7 outstanding dancers, vocalists and some of the leading musicians on the scene today. The audience will experience traditional dance, modern interpretations and electrifying new compositions written exclusively for this debut tour.
TNT Presents ACTING ALONE - a Festival Celebration of the Monodrama, Part Two

One of the greatest and oldest performance traditions is that of the lone story teller. Monodrama is the modern evolution of that ancient lineage, where a single actor performs an entire play — often with multiple characters — and sometimes even creates it. This season, The Northeast Theatre presents three self-produced monodramas called Acting Alone, a festival celebration of the monodrama, part two.
The series opens with Andrea Brugnera’s one man versions of two epic films; The Ten Commandments and The French Revolution. Performed in a contemporary style with roots in commedia dell’arte, Signore Brugnera brings with him a lifetime of skill and comedic style.

This classic Christie murder mystery is ingenious and witty with a fascinating collection of characters whose fears are real and whose passions run deep. Guests assemble for a weekend at the country estate of Lord and Lady Angatell (Art Walsh & Janet Lowe). Its members joined by blood, marriage, lust and money, the party masks a tangled web of secret jealousies and desires. At the center is the dashing John Cristow (Joe Palumbo), his current mistress,Henriette (Angelina Glodzik) his ex-lover; The Glamorous Hollywoodstar, Veronica Craye (Dawn Winarski) and his wife. Someone is murdered. Everyone is suspect including The Angatell’s Acerbic Butler Gudgeon (Paul Winarski) and their lesst ha well off Cousin Midge (Carla Reck). Inspector Colquhoun (John Arena) and Sergeant Penny (Jeff Ginsberg)of Scotland Yard arrive and, secret by secret, the web unravels.

American Idol Bo Bice to Return to the Sherman Theater

The 15th annual American Traditions Competition returns to its original venue, the historic First African Baptist Church, for its final round during the 2008 Savannah Music Festival. The illustrious four-day vocal showcase hosts 33 singers from around the United States between March 26 and 29. Judges narrowed the field of talent to these gifted vocalists after receiving the highest number of applicants in the last five years.

First Annual Gala Raises $18,000 for New Theatre

An unexpectedly large crowd turned out to support Chenanago River Theatre at the company’s first Gala fundraiser at the Silo Restaurant on January 12. It was an evening of wine and appetizers with great entertainment from notable area entertainers, and featured both a silent and live auction, with dozens of items donated by businesses and individuals throughout the greater Binghamton area. By the end of the evening, $18,000 had been raised to help support the operations of the area’s only non-profit, Equity theatre company.
Community Comes Out to Support Sherman Capital Campaign

On January 18, 2008, the Sherman Theater, located in downtown Stroudsburg, announced its transition to a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and officially launched its capital campaign.
With the success of this campaign, the nonprofit organization will own the theater building making the Sherman a permanent fixture of arts and community in downtown Stroudsburg. Funds raised will also be used for the acquisition and expansion of the regional arts center.
Theater Teams Up with American Red Cross To Host Blood Drive

The American Red Cross, Northeastern Pennsylvania Region will hold special blood drives on Wednesday, January 9th, Thursday, January 10th and Friday, January 11th. The event, that will be supported by more than 25 local sponsors and is highlighting the “Giving is Living” campaign. The campaign highlights the fact that when you give one donation you can help to save someone’s life, one donation can help save the lives of up to three people. Everyday, people in area hospitals depend on receiving the “Gift of Life”. Blood donations are required to keep supplies adequate and to meet patients’ needs.
